Welcome to the Wellington Project
March 1, 2011 marked the 101 year anniversary of the Wellington avalanche that claimed 96 lives. It remains the worst avalanche disaster in terms of human lives lost in the history of the United States.
The Wellington Project is a multimedia project designed to share the history and haunting of the former railroad town of Wellington, Washington in the Cascade Mountains. Photographer Jayme Oldham (Coates) has visited Wellington regularly for more than six years, and her time there is documented in stunningly beautiful photographs. Author Karen Frazier has been visiting Wellington since July of 2009, and was so captivated by the history and location, she two books about it. Karen and her husband, Jim, have also created a series of videos sharing information about Wellington. The videos, some of Jayme's photography, and links to Karen's books are all available on this site.
